Mobile Smiles

This morning I had a pretty hectic day at the old workplace. But I awoke to hear my boy rise from his slumber and grunt his way awake. I went to check on him. He was ear to ear grins. And he was staring up at his Looney Tunes mobile. So I moved some of the Looney Tuners around and his grin got bigger. He was checking things out. This is somewhat unheard of in the six-week age limit that he is. But man oh man did it get me through the rest of my day. Nothing can block an awesome smile and understanding from my son.

Right now I'm listening to him on his baby monitor and with every grunt, sigh, and sound, I tense up ready to go into action. But it's all worth it--that smile will really melt your heart. I tell you what, fatherhood is a damn cool thing and I can't believe that I'm here talking about something I never really thought I'd experience. For those of you who have known me since I was younger, you know exactly where I'm coming from. It's breathtaking and I encourage all to engage in becoming a parent if you have that option and want it.

The last couple of days I've felt so torn--wanting to hear him speak yet enjoying every minute of now. Wanting to see him grow into a man, but wanting to still be able to change his diaper. Wanting to tell him the secrets of Jason Jokes™ but not wanting him to yet laugh. It's a strange dilemma but you just have to take everything in stride, realizing that this world, the universe, our everything, is meant to be in a certain way and in a certain order and sometimes, you just have to live within its boundaries.

My son is amazing. And that's all I have to say.
